I need a bit of software that is

.avi to MPEG / MPEG encoder

I found a peice called "Main concept MPEG encoder" that did exactly what i want but it left a little advert at the top of my film.

Can you PLEASE help?

Avi is another, terrible, huge format of video. I hate it. And the output framerate is usually crap.

Adio Visual Interleave, it's a container for a video and audio stream. Usually the video is some form of MPEG. You know when you get things in ZIP files that are just zipped so that you can download one big file instead of lots of little ones? Well that's what AVI is like. It's just a way of binding video and audio together efficiently.

And it *sucks*. But it's a standard.

I use Avi2Mpeg. Works well, but does take some time to encode, but then don't they all?

Cucusoft Avi to MPEG does the trick!

Why would you want to convert anything to mpeg?

search on download.com, otherwise good old google, unless someone can give you a specific file name.
