To my great surprise, as I looked at the pile of stuff the postman had delivered this morning, I noticed the familiar envelopes Special Reserve use. I hadn't ordered anything and Phantasy Star Online wasn't out until Friday so what could it be? I hadn't ordered anything. When I opened it it was indeed my copy of PSO! With it being a Gameaday prize I wasn't expecting it until about a week after release.

How chuffed I was! Even more so when I remembered that it came with a demo of Sonic Adventure 2! I thought I'd try this out first for a quick go before having a proper stab at PSO.

However this is when my excitement fell. I wasn't disappointed with SA2. Neither was I thrilled by it. The reason being that the disc loads the title screen, happily goes onto a video demo but, after accepting the offer to 'Press Start' the screen goes blank, the drive spins a few times and then.....nothing! IT DOES NOT WORK!!!! I CANNOT PLAY IT!!

AAAARRRGGGGHH! (repeat several times for effect)

I don't want to send the lot back 'cos then I'll be without PSO as well. What can I do?

I presume a few people must have PSO now so has anyone else got a fauty Sonic disc?

Will it work on a normal UK DC with no problems and allow ISP selection?

I've tried the online setup and it just connects to the Dreamarena.

I've called the support line and they said that the phone number is on the disc (they probably mean the Dreamkey disc) and cannot be changed.

Anyone bought a Dreamcast recently? If so what verion of Dreamkey do you get?

How can I get hold of a US version? Won't I need another disc to be able to run that one? Is it worth it?

I don't intend on paying one penny in Internet call charges (excpet for the 5p minimum charge I incur anyway) no matter how good the game is.

I have heard rumblings that the UK version WILL support any ISP that exists in your DC's internal memory.

Thing is, you'll need the US Browser disc.

Ah, so this is why the Dreamcast is soooo cheap.

PSO itself works fine.

I'm just about to go dig out my Dreamcast phone lead becuase I've read something interesting in the manual about online play.

Quote:

"Charges for online Play.

You will need to pay for access time from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and any additional phone charges needed to connect to your ISP's access point."

In the game menus it also says you MAY be charged a telephone fee.

Does this mean the UK version allows ISP selection? I'm off to try it out.

Those symptons you mention are somewhat similar to what some (including myself) experienced with the actual US Phantasy Star Online GD.

Nothing wrong with me Sonic Adventure 2 GD though - worked fine!
