£3,000,000,000

Yes that's Right

£3,000,000,000...3 Billion Pounds, that is how much Piracy cost the Videogaming industry last year. All that money that the developers could have, earned, they could have undertook, countless new ideas for games, they could have developed brilliant new tools for masking 3d environments
into games, that money could have saved some companies that fell under the fickle axe that is Gaming. But it went amiss, to shady back street market dealers, who are trying to undermine the massive developers as part of a Universal
plan to cripple the industry.
Thinking like that is absolute nonsense, piracy is harming the industry, I am not denying that and I don't condone it. However at the same time I have sympathy for those that use piracy and understand the reasons why. For
instance, those with little means have to pay the same price for a game that Rich people pay for. I understand that there are various issues here that cause this situation but nevertheless, consider how schools now can
have massive class differences. Students from poor families are rubbing shoulders with children whose parents get them whatever they want, I know I was there 2 years ago. Yes prices fall, but platinum games take a while to
come out and buy the time they are, the sequel is already out.
Consider also the agonising wait between games, how long we had to sit and read reports from Japan and the States about PS2, it was very difficult having to wait for our turn, because by the time PS2 is on the shelves, (early a year after Japan received it) we are now gearing up for the
Japanese release of X-Box, and Gameboy Advance. It is a vicious circle because we are always at the bottom of it. How long will we be seeing the Japanese screenshots of MGS2, and FAQ's, etc, before we even see a glimpse
of a release date.
So these things drive forward Piracy, and Imports, taking money away from the European Gaming Industry. The same sector that generated record income for the industry last year, with what thanks. Another long wait...Followed
by another...Long Wait...
So to anyone in the industry that bemoans the fact that Pirate copies are available of games they made before they are even released. I ask you where is the justice, The developer loses out on royalties they are due, and the
gamer loses out because they have a sub-standard product.
There is only 1 way this issue will be solved...
Stop the ..........Long Waits!!!

Games should really be realeased everywhere at the same time, or at least in the UK and US at the same time.

The industry creates the hype surrounding a game, you can read the previews in magazines (Who have the US version), so you get excited...then you read due for UK release in 3 months, and then theirs that Dodgey Guy selling the Game at the market on Saturdays!

The UK is always getting ripped off like this, and its sad!

Piracy will always be around, but it woundnt be as bad if the release dates were universal!

There was a topic like this a little time back, and I thought of this 100% solution to piracy:

Get rid of territorial lock outs. Thus all games are released universally- so no waiting. In addition, code games in all the major languages right from the start. This will save on money, and games will be cheaper. Also, games must be the same price universally, because u can get any copy anywhere in the world (why univsal music CDs aren't the same price all over the world is anyone's guess!).

This will stop all those who can't be bothered to wait.

Finally, don't release poor games. Most pirates (and not the ones who are in it for a living) do so because they have, in the past, spent £40 on a poor game... if the games were good i would spend as much moeny as it costs to get the original!

Answer: Use notepad. It's the best program Microsoft have ever had anything to do with. Ever.

I agree consoles should be able to output a NTSC or PAL signal as standard. The Amiga 1200 had the option and that machine came out before even the playstation, theres no excuse for this problem!
Luckily some Dreamcast games have hinted at the solution, such as Dead or Alive 2 which allows you to select from 50Hz(50 frames per second or PAL) or 60Hz (60 frames per second or NTSC). But my point is there should be a option built into the consoles to switch signals or even regions, so you could choose to play a US or Japanese or UK game.

I mean Tekken Tag Tournament wouldnt be bad even in Japanese!

The games industry is responsible for its own losses when it releases a game in the US and then waits 3 months before releasing it here!

yeah, im new, and fair enough i did actually write it in word, when i pasted it i went thru it removing all the one ord sentences and end of paragraphs that appeared for no reason, or so i thought, but i do agree alex, i dont mind waiting for japanese (cos i sure as hell cant speak japanese - and i think it would be pretty crap to play final fantasy IX in japanese or gran turismo like i once did, couldnt work out what the hell i was adding to my car or what car i was buying) but even if a console is NTSC or PAL, what difference does that make to the game itself, thats the TVs way of communicating, it should be possible to make a game that doesnt care what format the tv is, thats the consoles job, they do it for the same reason they have DVD regions, so they can charge more!!!!

I agree with Alex, I mean fair enough, translating the game from Jap to English will take time but from English To English.....er....about 3 hours max!!!.LOL I think that all the western countries should have 1 type of console, The States and Europe should both run PAL or both run NCSTS or whatever it is, not doing so just means a delay in game, hopefully they will do this with the Gamecube, if not because we have yet to see Hey You, Pikachu, ... Quest 64, That other one, what's it called? Ogre Battle 64 and all I might get a US Gamecube and an adapter from Tandy!, I just want to see all the games out on my shelf....the ones I want anyway, I am tired of not having the same privilages as other countries, especially when we pay a lot more for our gamnes!

The Game

Anyone Agree with us?! The thing that annoys me is the fact that UK-Based Rare make the 64 games and we still don't see them for aaaaaagggggees!!! Now THAT, excuse the French is...F'D up!
