Another problem for the tech heads.

Need to somehow get my PC (in an upstairs room) to access the internet even though the cable for broadband is in a downstairs room. No wires can go up the stairs, and theres only that one PC.

Any ideas? What would I need to get it running? Is it even possible?

Many thanks in advance.

Disregard that statement, as an AP (Access Point) will put out a faster connection than your BroadBand connection can provide. Unless you've got a 10mb pipe to the net which I can imagine is not true. Even if you had a 1mb pipe the AP unit will provide a decent enough connection inside the house and you will see very little effect on the performance.

Thanks all :)

Wireless was my option, Dad says no more wires upstairs for some reason.

Well in the region of around £100 i'd say.

>> I looked into this last week, ebuyer.co.uk do the bits you need cheaply (an Access Point and Wireless Network Card), their own brand items were about £55 for the pair and branded bits around £70 (I think from memory) so it might not be as expensive as it sounds, check them out.

By the way, the Wireless Network Cards I was loooking at were for laptops so PCI ones for a desktop are bound to be even cheaper :)

You could go for wireless. I guess this is what you was thinking.

But. It would prove extremely expensive. Well in the region of around £100 i'd say. Also Wireless has its downsides - Your internet surfing will be a tad slower due to interferance with walls etc. The usual stuff - ya know.

How about the alternative to wiring up the stairs? Drill a hole to the outside of your house (near the computer with the broadband) thread the network cable through repeat with your room - thread the cable through and wahey!

I'm presuming you have knowledge of networks.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
