thanks,

I've been trying to bag myself a free Game-A-Day prize (all of you have managed it!) but I'm not a very good writer. Can anybody help me into writing a good article? Thanks if you can help me!

Sony got a new one out to me the very next day.(This morning to be exact)
I was told by SCE UK that it is a problem with the original Laser Pick-Up Mechanism that causes the scratches. They told me that the PS2 should work perfectly HORIZONTALLY or VERTICALLY with or without any stands. The replacements that have been sent out come with a revised DVD loading mechanism and an upgraded Laser Pick-Up Mechanism.
So if you have any problems with your system, get in touch with SCE UK and they should be able to help you.
Like Wookiee Monster said: If you want one, buy one.. You won't regret it!
I've had mine since launch day, and it's been 100% problem free.
About 5% of PS2's so far have been defective in some way, but this is no more than any other console. The only reason there's been so much fuss is that the machine received so much hype that everyone expected it to be perfect in every way. As with all electronics, that's impossible.
Anyway, if you want a PS2, go and buy one. There are sufficient PS2's available now that, should you have any problems, you should get a replacement almost immediately.
thanks,
Sandy.
