My computer is slow... but i want it faster... The broadband made the internet fast... Adding more RAM doesn't seem to be working and Windows XP made it stop crashing but it's still slow and i can never get into important AoE games.

Why is it still slow... Arrrrggh.

Just another thought, it could be your hard drive is on it's way out. Had exactly the same thing at work yesterday, computer running extremely slow, infact so slow it was taking about 5 mins to show the Start menu after clicking on the button.

Opened up the case and the hard drive is making clicking and clunking noises, found out the HDD was made by Fujitsu and was probably one from the major batch that was faulty.

Swapped over with our suppliers and now runs like a dream.

If you have less RAM than you need to open x number of programs, then those Windows has to s**tart using Hard Disk space as if it were memory. Of course reading and writing to the Hard Disk is orders of magnitude slower than reading and writing to RAM. This causes a much greater and more noticeable bottleneck than any deficit in processing power. Mos**t processors spend 90% of their time waiting for other parts of the machine to catch up.

If you have enough memory to run all the programs you need without having to resort to swap space, then the speed of the processor and memory become more important. In an older sys**tem however, a lack of memory is much more likely to cripple it.

Having more memory does make your computer perfomr faster though... It doesnt effect the processor speed, but it does save on virtual memory usage

Perhaps if you posted something resembling relevant information we might be able to help. What are your system specs - processor, memory etc. Or do you want us to reach into your PC using the magic of the interweb and cure it with space dust?

Perhaps your processor is slow?!?

Try upgrading that...or you might have a crap motherboard.

Your HDD may be full and sluggish.

A number of things, RAM is memory not speed, it just enables you to multi-task and use sophisticated programs, not speed. Speed is decipher throught the speed of ur processor!

Hope this helps!
