I have a laptop and the software for the modem was, so he says, accidently removed; my brothers fault. I have Win XP on my laptop and when it detects the modem connected it asks for an installation disk to install the software. Since I cant find this disk I am unable to install the driver. Now my modem does not exist and so I cannot connect to the internet to download, so it says, to update the driver...
I've downloaded various winzip files containing drivers off of other websites and transferred them via CD-R but they are of no use.
Is it possible to connect my laptop to an external modem via USB or via my PC or something and connect to the web to update the drivers that way?
Cheers.

Any other suitable advice is well appreciated.

Hey! It came in the laptop so its not really as if I chose the damn thing. And for the record it works fine.

I have a modem of the same esque as yours, yet a lot older, and WinXP had exactly the right drivers for it.

TO be honest I think you'd be licky to find WInXP drivers for your model, but stranger things have happened.

However, that modem is estremely poor. Rockwell/Conexant are the very worst modems on the market, and their performance is literally appalling.

Imbecile. Stop posting, that's an order. Nothing you say here is anything less than 100% incorrect. If you have no clue as to what you're talking about, don't give bad advice to others.

To the original poster: have you tried downloading and running Conexants List Modem application? It should be able to tell you what drivers you need.

Yes you can attach a USB external modem but that will cost you more.

The easiest option that i can think of is to use ur windows disks. There are always drivers installed on them and even if you cannot find the exact matching one, 56k modems are reasonably flexible so just install the nearest thing under the same manufacturer. Easy! If you have n e more problems, post in this space.
