I'm new to InstantPro and have been experimenting with themes. I chose Vertigo over Vortex as the former permits a large banner (892x210 pixels). However, I can't use the "Below banner" setting for navigation buttons as this appears to eat into the banner space, restricting it to 150px high. So my navigation is on the left only.

My problem is that although navigation is left only, there is still a rectangle (with graduated fill) at the top of the page, separated from the banner by a thin white line - I guess it's a header which mirrors the footer.

Question: How can I lose the header (which does nothing), or somehow have a banner of 892x210 pixels positioned at the very top of the page? I'd be happy to leave navigation at the left or put it below the banner, so long as the full 892x210 banner is available.

Many thanks for any pointers or suggestions.

The large banner dimension are for when the navigation is set to be above or below the banner and down the left of the site. All themes should support this. You may have to go into the 'Edit Website Layout' page to turn the necessary navigation on though as by default some themes only have horizontal navigations enable by default (this means that the banner size is smaller). You could try using the Manhattan theme and change the navigation styling to whatever you want and set it to be below the banner and left. There is no top bar on this theme.
