Does anyone use passive heatsinks for their hard drive? I'm eorried about the heat it generates, and though none of the "cooling experts" have said there is no point in using HD waterblocks/coolers, I still think that the hotter it gets, the shorter its lifespan is. So... does anyone know where I can buy passive HD heatsinks (in the UK)? Thanks.

In quite a fwe new cases they actually come with hard drive coolers built in. The hard drives go in a different section where 1 or 2 fans are situated and blow cool air over them. Maybe if you after a new case then get one of those. Or fit a fan in front of the hard drive(s) and let that cool it down. You can get special fan covers as well that the hard drive fits in.

Zalman have some new passive HDD heatsinks out, but they're really for high speed SCSI drives.

It is true that you do not need to put heatsinks on your hard disk drive, As for life span of hdd's the first thing to go will be the internal components and that just due to general wear and tear, you would be wasting your time cooling the hdd unless you have a SCSI hdd then these tend to get hotter, If you are really going to use Passive heatsinks for it then you can get them from..

Hope this helps
