McLaren and Williams show they are still in the hunt
McLaren and Williams dominate the first two rows of the grid in an attempt to claw their way back into the title picture. McLaren were the fastest as Coulthard and Raikkonen took pole position and 2nd place respectively, only spilt by 0.004 of a second. The Williams duo, Montoya and Ralf Schumacher, are looking very good as well and got 3rd and 4th respectively.
As for the 3 drivers that could possibly have the Championship lead at the end of the race, Villeneuve did the best with 11th on the grid but it will be a close fight in the midfield with Alonso threatening from 14th and Firman right behind him on the grid in 16th.
Heidfeld was the victim of the one shot lap system. He lost a lot of time and, as usual, one mistake and the lap is ruined. He paid the ultimate price and will start 22nd and last for the race.
Some other notable mentions:
Most of the Championship contenders did fairly well and will be looking to close the gap. Trulli's slump in form continues with only 17th on the grid but a points finish is still possible. De La Rosa 6th, Button 7th and Verstappen 8th will be an interesting battle as they all have the chance of a serious title push.

Hopefully Panis can get a very good start, and some of the top front drivers make mistakes by crashing into each other.
