Very gay.
It's about a gay boy and his not gay friends. But they're mostly secretly gay anyway.
And the not gay male characters have all either smoked the meaty pole, or had theirs smoked. Then they turn out gay in the end anyway.
There are way too many characters to not care about. Not only do you got the 4 main kids, you also have to read the back-story of their siblings and parents, and even grandparents.
It all comes to a conclusion in a hurricane, as if it couldn't be any more clichéd. And the plot revelations throughout are both obvious, and painfully drawn out.
Funnily enough, it's no longer in the bookstore when I bought it some time ago...

to hell with the recommended reads, but the 'sci fi masterworks' series is v.good
