I have some old vinyl songs that I really want to put on a CD and I know it is possible but some of the ways seem a little complex.

Someone suggested trying to get a CD recorder (like as part of a hi fi stack) and connecting the record player to that and recording but I wanted to run music software to edit the tracks before putting them on CD so I really need them on the PC before hand,

Any info on how to go about it best would be really appreciated.

Yeah you can use soundforge.. as long as you get a decent signal in you can just rip it into there.

You might want to get some de-clickers or noise reduction plug ins for it too so you can tidy it all up.

I take it something like soundforge would allow me to record it?
I've heard that that way causes a reduction in quality but I guess it could be fairly minimal.

Get a lead to go from your headphone socket on your amp to the mic socket on your soundcard, and record-u-like.
