It is a rare event, an extravaganza, a memorable day in videogaming history.
The release of a new Final Fantasy game is an eagerly anticipated event, in the past we have had some memorable moments from Square.
Whether it be when Sephiroth realises he has been created as art of the Jenova project, or Edgar re-uniting with his brother Sabin to fight the evil forces. Final Fantasy has been at the fore of pulling the emotion string's of the heart. There are many views on the moral issues of gaming, do they incite violence... Well Final Fantasy uses Fighting and attacking Magic, but not at the detriment of virtue. Most would agree that although violence is the only means of progressing in points it in no way promotes violence.
Also we have had the argument that sequels are churned out at the cost of the game, well each Final Fantasy is in no way linked to the previous one, it truly is a new and unique game. The argument that games aren't pressing the technology that they appear on Final Fantasy has always squeezed so much out of the machine, Final Fantasy III (6) really stretched the Snes and pushed forward the apabilities
expected likewise with FF7 it really showed us what the Playstation coulddo. Now with Final Fantasy it has a lot of critics, but to the fans who appreciate the game, I ask both sets what other game, with 8 sequels has continually pushed forward the gaming industry, what other series of games captures your emotions and keeps you occupied for 60+ hours.
Not many can compete with that sort of criteria for a series of games.
So I ask you then all those who have been reminiscing with me what are your top 5 Final Fantasy events of all time?Mine are:
5 - FF4... The walls are caving in and Palom and Parom sacrifice there life for Cecil by turning themselves to stone...I remember feeling really bad because I thought they were dead, and they were fun in the narrative, they are later revived
4 - FF5... When as Lenna, you watch as you have the choice between saving the Hiryuu race and your mother. It is a difficult choice of course, but it is a flashback that really connected you with Lenna
3 - FF6... This game split everyone up as the world ended, as you found and saved each and every character again was so satisfying and a real feel of friendship and unity was created.
2 - FF8... Rinoa and Squall in the Ragnarok, there feelings bubble forth and they can't pretend anymore, it shortly after this that Squall risks
everything for Rinoa, truly a hero, in every sense of the word.
1 - FF7... When Aeris is killed, this is probably the most emotional scene of any computer game I have ever played. My favourite character was gone and the music during the battle with the Jenova after summed up the mood.
The most definitive moment of Final Fantasy history I thank square for providing one of themost magnificent series in history, they are pushing forward the games industry, this is the future of Gaming quality games from Quality developers. There has been so many great moments.
Too many to count. What are yours?
