Everton have reportedly signed former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman from Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Toffees chief David Moyes, in Austria with his squad at a training camp, had previously admitted: "Steve McManaman is someone who I think could be a good addition."

And he added: "I am keen to bring in young players for the future but I need to counter that with some good honest professionals who can do a job."

McManaman's £60,000-a-week wages at the Bernabeu were thought to have been a stumbling block to any deal, but he may have decided to take a pay-cut in order to secure regular first-team football at Goodison Park.

David Moyes is a very canny manager and im 100% positive that he did contact Real regarding Mcmanaman that he wouldnt admit it to the press for fear of another club jumping in to try and poach Macca in an 11th hour bid.

The coming days will provide the answers but 1 things for certain, Moyes wants Macca... we all know that much at least.

Everton have denied claims they have signed Real Madrid winger Steve McManaman on a free transfer.

The former Liverpool star's future at the Bernabeu is in doubt following David Beckham's high-profile arrival at the club and he had been linked with a return to the Premiership, with Goodison Park or Manchester City both touted as possible destinations.

Blues boss David Moyes did say earlier this week that McManaman was the type of player he would love to sign, but both he and Everton head of PR and communications Ian Ross have denied that the 31-year-old had joined on a free transfer.

Ross said: "It's news to me," with Moyes adding: "We've not made any approach for him and I've not had any contact with Steve McManaman because he is under contract with Real Madrid."
