$7,500 Development Prize and Banff Centre Scholarship
The National Film Board of Canada is pleased to present The NFB New Media Pitch 2009. The NFB is seeking proposals for compelling interactive documentaries that harness the power of story, capitalize on multiple platforms, and demonstrate the creative and democratic nature of digital media. The producer(s) of the winning proposal will receive a co-production development deal from the National Film Board that will include up to $7,500 in funding.
For 70 years the National Film Board of Canada has been recognized as a world leader in the creation of social-issue documentaries and auteur animation. As Canada's public producer, it develops distinctive, culturally diverse and challenging works of audiovisual material that engage its citizens and reach audiences around the globe.
Proposals should seek to explore important, socially relevant issues and strive to illuminate and educate audiences, stimulate dialogue, and perhaps even involve audiences in the creation of the documentary itself. Selections will be evaluated on story, creativity, interactivity, theme, platform and feasibility.
The winner will also be awarded a full scholarship, covering tuition, registration, meals, accommodation, air fare within Canada, and airport shuttle to attend the Interactive Screen Program at The Banff Centre's renowned New Media Institute.
Please note: costs of registration and travel to BANFF for the pitch is the responsibility of the finalists.
To apply please complete and submit the official online entry form. A jury of industry experts will review the submissions and select three finalists.
The three finalists will pitch their projects to a prestigious panel of international broadcasters at BANFF on Monday, June 8, 2009. Finalists will receive valuable feedback, network with their peers, and have their ideas heard by industry experts. The finalists are encouraged to make visual presentations or a demonstration of development to date and new media functionality. Each pitch will be followed by a round of questions from the jury and audience. After the ballots are cast the winner will be announced at the closing ceremonies of the Festival on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

It would be nice to only pay a fraction of the price to upgrade software too, FIFAs too expensive too keep buying every year for a game thats nothing more than a slight graphical improvement on the previous version and new player stats!
