So, maybe there are terrorists in Iraq then ? Al Qaeda apparently seems to be saying so and no one is saying they are wrong. Admittedly the tape has not yet been verified and that won't be easy due to the previously unknown nature of this branch of the terrorist network.

It does make sense, however, for them to do this. By attacking US Troops they can firstly just kill American and (so far two) UK troops. Also, by making it appear to be Iraqi's doing this they fuel Saddam's remaining supporters as well as civil unrest in the country. And they attempt, and so far have generally failed, to dent support for the war and ongoing operations in Iraq.

As you can see, three networks ran this, with the BBC not seeing fit to give it more than a paragraph, yet whenever unverified Saddam tapes are released they always get a page. Paranoid ? Me....of the BBC ? Yes.

Perhaps he isn't behind the attacks. But then why does he call on his people to carry on the attacks? Which he has done in those tapes of him. He's certainally supporting them, if not organising them!

Never asked for help though did he ? Undoubtedly some of this is misinformation and the truth lies somewhere in between.

From the 3rd link:
"A group claiming to be an Iraqi branch of Al Qaeda (search) said it -- and not Saddam Hussein -- is behind recent attacks on U.S. forces"

From the 1st link:
"I swear by God, no one from his (Saddam's) followers carried out any jihad operations like he claims...they (attacks) are a result of our brothers in jihad," said the unidentified voice on the tape"

---

So Saddam had no influence and has Al-Queda operating without his consent in his country.
Surely then, the "Coalition" should have been assisting him in ridding them instead of deposing him?
