The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is one of my favourite races of the season, probably because I have experienced the atmosphere myself. The track has been changed numerous times to accommodate overtaking and challenge but I would say that overtaking can be a real challenge round here.

Last years SR F1 Championship British Grand Prix had a contrast of weather patterns unsurprisingly. The qualifying was nice and dry but the race was wet and miserable but kept drying out and eventually leading to more drizzle.

The top 7 drivers in qualifying for last years race are, with a few exceptions, 7 contenders for the drivers title this year. Jenson Button took a tightly contested pole position ahead of Raikkonen and Villeneuve. Just behind them were Coulthard, Trulli, De La Rosa and Ralf Schumacher. The only strugglers that are battling for the championship were Montoya, who got 14th, and Fisichella, who got 20th.

The race being wet led to total change when the race finished to the positions where they started. The 3 eventual title contenders, Villeneuve, Panis and Frentzen, finished in that order in the race. The B.A.R 1-2 shows that they are very strong round here. Raikkonen, Button and De La Rosa rounded out the points finishes.

The weather conditions are so changeable in Britain that anything can happen in this race. A few drivers need strong showings to establish a late bid to become World Champion. At the moment, Alonso seems to pick up points in every race and that could be key at the end of the season. So many things can change and time is running out.

Round 11 of 17 is usually the round where the main contenders show their hands. Who will the winners and losers be at the end of the race?

Not that I'm getting disheartened - I'm not honest. I really don't have a sinking feeling prior to clicking into these threads but are you taking bets?

C'mon Raikkenon, move yer blooming butt!
