I think the reason for it not doing great(or what it deserved) in the box office was that the wrong type of audience went to see it. From the name of the film, and harsh reviews plus a little bit misleading trailers, I think most people were expecting a film with mindless violence and plenty of fist fights. They would have been bitterly dissapointed and would have found it boring. There was not actualy that many fight scenes, Just very disturbing ones. However for those who appreciated it's boldness, clever script and a great twist in the plot would have definatly enjoyed it.If you've seen it a second time I am sure you have liked it even more, things you did not spot, dialogue you did not quite understand all become clear. It was a misunderstood film that I believe was one of the greats, and a definet DVD purchase.
So what did every one else think of it?
"How good can it be?" I here you ask, well it's so fired up with explosive ideas and killing humour that the guardians of morality are yelling out 2Danger - keep out!"
Thats how good!
Brilliant performances from Edwards Norton (American History X, Primal Fear) and Brad Pitt (Snatch, Seven) with a very unexpected twist at the end.
The ony reson I hired it then was because I couldnt find ANYTHING else to hire, and was very bored...
However about a third of the way though, when things start getting interesting, I was completly amazed...
I think I enjoyed the movie more because I was expecting the standard action faire, only to be conmpletly contradicted when the film got into its swing...
