"To the apathetic writer, son."
"What, like Harry Hill?"
"Ha, ha, ha, no! No! Apathetic, not pathetic. Besides, there's nothing wrong with Harry Hill, his brand of humour is just, well, let's say unique, shall we?"
"Okay Dad, but what did you mean by an apathetic writer then?"
"Well let me tell you about a fellow I know, we'll call him Ben."
"Why Ben?"
"Because it's a good name for the story, okay?"
"Okay."
"Well Ben gets all these great ideas, and he doesn't know where they come from. He'll be sitting there at work, or driving in his car, when 'WHAM' it'll hit him, a fantastic idea for a story."
"Wow, he's so lucky to get great ideas like that!"
"You'd think so, wouldn't you son? But no, for he is cursed with apathy, and those ideas stay exactly where they are, as good ideas rotting in his mind, and sometimes scrawled on the pages of a book, which will also eventually become lost and forgotten."
"That's terrible! Why does it happen?"
"Well son, he blames all kinds of things. Sometimes it's a lack of time, sometimes he claims 'writers block', but really, it's because he's scared to try."
"Scared of what, Dad?"
"Failure. It's better to not try and not fail than to try to fail, or so he believes."
"What has made him this way?"
"Life. So far he's had it easy. Everything he has, he has stumbled upon, through no will of his own. Now he has the ability to do something, but doesn't know how to do it. He did try, to begin with, but when it didn't fall into his lap, well, he started to let go."
"So he'll never write those stories?"
"Maybe son. Maybe."
