Is this the most transparent ploy ever to refuse to bow down to pressure for help from the recession through budget cuts? Or are they actually speaking from the heart?
It’s probably true to say that the recession probably hasn’t hit the country quite as hard as some of the early scaremongers were trying to have us believe, but that doesn’t mean anything to those who’ve found themselves out of a job without another position to fill and to those business who find themselves with only the option of bankruptcy left.
Even if you are lucky enough to have a job, most of us have found that we’ve had to cut back and be careful about our spending recently. So it will be interesting when the budget is finally announced to see how far the government is willing to go and whether they are currently preparing us for disappointment.
Obviously there are many factors to weigh up in providing help or support and throwing more money at people isn't really going to solve the issues but I still feel that there is a plan to let people down gently when less drastic measures are announced.
I'll be interesting to read more on the car scrapping scheme as my car is 10 years old this year and is worth not even half the £2000 quoted around yesterday.
According to the BBC budget check I will be slightly better off due to NI and tax reductions more than offsetting the increase in booze and petrol.
I thought it was more generous than my sceptical mind was expecting, but it still involved a lot of spin to make it sound good compared to the current economic issues.
