The DVD player has been around for a fair few year and the price of the playerand DVD movies has dropped a fair amount and lately there has been an influx of people buying DVD players.

I am happy to say that I am one of those fair few but people who complain about DVD's having extra's compaired to the good old VHS.... well I would just like to put my view forward.

First of all, when the DVD haven't come out yet, films on tape did not have these special features anyway. In fact, buy films like the Matrix and The Sixth Sense, smack me if I'm wrong but doesn't these VHS's have 'the making of' features added to it?

Secondly those who own DVD player obvioulsy paid for it. So deservingly they should get what they've paid for. Also DVD films cost more or less double that for films on VHS.

This is not an boasting note but a discusion for the pro's and con's.

If I read your thread right, are you complaining that DVDs are expensive for what you get for your money?

If it is, here's the counter-argument complete with examples:

DVD's are a new technology compared to VHS therefore the price is more, although I accept that DVD movies should be the same price if not cheaper than video movies.

However, the featurettes you get with DVD movies are sometimes worth their weight in gold, Gladiator is a good example of this, well worth paying extra for, something that I would not have considered doing in the past.

Plus with a DVD you get a fantastic picture quality and crystal clear sound that VHS just cannot equate, and with DVD players now on a par with VHS players in terms of price at the low end, it won't be long until the prices of the two machines are on a par and VHS will die out altogether. I picked up a new DVD player two weeks ago for 110 pounds, which is cheaper than any VCR I ever bought.

With DVD coming to the fore as the main movie technology in the home, consumer pressure and market forces will also drive down the price of DVDs to a par with VHS tapes, so things are always going to get better in that respect.
