AC Milan vicepresident Adriano Galliani announced that an unnamed English club offered 50 million Euros for defender Alessandro Nesta yesterday, a bid he decided to refuse.

"Just yesterday I turned down a 50 million Euro bid tabled by an English club. This shows that we mainly intend to stregthen our team by confirming our champions," Galliani unexpectedly told the club's official website.

Manchester United are probably the mystery club that attempted the Nesta coup, but also Newcastle and Chelsea are being tipped by the British media as the possible mega-bidders.

Galliani also spoke about two possible signings that the European champs have been linked to, Stam and Nakata.

On the prospects of signing the Dutchman Galliani said, "We are interested in signing Stam, but in this moment he is not on the market. If things were to change we would need to take into account the amount of money Lazio want in exchange for the player."

Galliani also confirmed Milan are evaluating the possibility of signing Nakata.

"We recently took into account carrying out a swap deal with Parma involving Nakata and a Milan player that isn't included in the first 16-17 players of our squad. Let's see what happens, the transfer might ultimately take place."

€50m is £30m- But if that's offered for one of your best players, I would reject it myself. That much CAN be made in prize money.

i can only see it being United as they are the only one who have that sort of money although with that russian taking over at Chelsea it could have been them
