Pedro De La Rosa has taken pole position for the French Grand Prix, showing that his win last year was no fluke. The session was quite a strange one in that no rain was forecast, but we saw drizzle for about 4 cars qualifying laps, seriously affecting their times.
The biggest loser due to the drizzle was Raikkonen. Raikkonen was out on track during the worst period of the slicker conditions and lost about half a second and with times being so close, it left him at the back of the grid.
Apart from the drizzle, the qualifying was closely contested with Montoya looking very fast, particularly in the last sector. The qualifying also saw the upturn in fortunes of Panis. He has been struggling with a sub-standard car all season so far but his car is going well round this track and 6th is a good place for a points attack.
It was also a good day for the Championship chasers as none of the top 5 title challengers got into the top 8 places. Alonso is the closest to the points in 9th, Villeneuve will struggle from 19th, Firman will be in with another battle with Alonso from 11th and Trulli is also in there with 12th place. Button will have his work cut out from 17th place.
It's De La Rosa that has taken pole position just fractionally ahead of a dangerous looking Montoya in second. Minardi will be hoping their unreliability problems are behind them as Wilson qualifies 3rd and Verstappen qualifies 7th. Ralf Schumacher's resurgance continues with 4th on the grid. Fisichella has points in mind with 5th place. World Champion Panis will be delighted with 6th and Barrichello will be happy with 8th on the grid although there may be faster cars behind him.

Just a reminder that there is one driver space available: IRVINE
I would say that there are a few slightly faster cars in the wrong positions and if the rain falls, anything could happen!
Wonder if this is the place where I make a mark.
2nd on the grid.
*Dances*
Damn Scouser

What game me the advantage, was the fact that I robbed all of the other cars tyre's.
