Just read this book, Nuclear Paranoia by Chas Newkey-Burden. Really quite startling how close we have been, and are presently to complete destruction.

There are several pages of accounts where in the past, planes have broken up while flying over land masses around the world, carrying up to 30 Megaton bombs (over a 1000 times more powerful than the bomb at hiroshima).

One particular account mentions how 2 such bombs were dropped by a military bomber that collided with a refuelling jet at 30,000 feet over north carolina. One parachuted to safety, the other dropped out of the sky and hit an area of marshland. When found, the 25 megaton bomb had 5 of the 6 safety devices destroyed. This is unbelievable. And as the book says, these are only the accounts the governments were unable to keep quiet.

It was watching the film threads that made me want to learn more about the bomb. truthfully it scares the hell out of me.

I was thinking a Geogre Orwell. Maybe a Will Self or that Big Brother-esque one by Ben Elton.

How much was it?

it's not a very long book, only took me about an hour and a half to read, but is very modern (published 2003)
