Now that Carlos Quieroz has become the new first-team manager (or "coach"...) at David Beckham's soon-to-be-new-club Real Madrid, there is a now a vacancy at Old Trafford in the Portuguezer's old `Assistant Managerī role, which no-one is quite sure who will come to fill it in...

Several big-names have already been thrown into the hat, but we're still none the wiser on this situation....

Here are just some of the 'candidates' who have recently been mentioned:

Mark Hughes (Wales boss)
Phillippe Trousier (ex-Japan 2002 head-coach)
Someone already at United
And... Eric "Le King" Cantona (who's currenly either acting, gaining-weight or playing Beach Soccer)

Okay, so perhaps there aren't that many... But, really, from that list, there is only ONE candidate who any-one of us United fans would ever want to see fill-in the role as Fergie's No.2....

Eric Cantona.

It has to be said, he left Old Trafford too-soon.
Since his departure into Retirement and "new things", Manchester United have never quite been the same, ever lacking that sudden sprite of inspiration - which is why, I believe, it is time for 'the King to return' (sorry!)!

It's not like he's ever ruled-out a return to Old Trafford on the non-playing side of things - infact, it's been quite the opposite, with his name somewhere towards the top of the list of candidates to replace Sir Alex, whenever his job appears to be drifting-away from him.
But, just as long as Fergie's still chewing-gum, that No.1 spot will always be a million-miles-away.

I can only begin to wonder how great the United first-team would feel to see "King Eric" back at the `Theatre of Dreamsī, in training, on a daily-basis...! It would give each player a right kick-up-the-backside!

Just look at how well England seemed to instantly improve after the arrival of the well-know figure that is Sweden's Sven-Goran Eriksson.

And, as Assistant Manager and Reserve Team Coach, each-one of those promising up-and-coming youngsters, or second-string has-beens, would have something good to look-forward to, with such a well-respected figure in-place.

Only good things can come from the appointment of the right man (...Eric Cantona!). But, would "The King" (no, NOT Elvis!) be your first-choice?
If not, then, who would?
