Theres really no suggestion that people will be taxed for playing games online. After all, the vast majority of EULAs state that you dont actually own anything in online game worlds anyway.

Things like Second Life might be a different ball game though. Users have alot more rights and they own the content they create. And theres a definite exchange rate between real world currencies and the virtual currencies. Once such economies are developed enough I suspect you'll get people trying to use them to avoid paying tax in some manner. :)

Nooo! The death penalty? Hanging?

No - we'll send you out into the wilderness for sixteen days and 3 hours. You have until then to deliver the Jade Donkey and slay the Pink Dragon.

Then you'll be hung...

Luckily I don't game online, but eek though! Why do we need to be taxed to play. Tax for earning, tax for living, tax for driving and tax for buying. Now I guess this can be considered a "resting tax" or a "playing tax".

I think it may come in but not for a few years yet.

If people are making serious money out of these sites the tax man will want a slice but in order to do that they'll have to prove that you are using these sites purely for financial gain and not for pleasure.
