Most of us, like me, are planning to salvage what we can with the arrival of the PS2 and sell our N64's hoping to get at least £100 for our once-prized possesion and all it's entourage. Others, however, are planning to see it out to the death, with the hope that good games will keep coming and that maybe, in 1 or 2 years, they will sell it for £15 at a car boot sale. Not me, I am getting out now.
Years ago I had a Sega Megadrive and when Sony released the Playstation I sensed the winds were about to change. I quickly sold my MD and got a good price for it and bought a Playstation and, as predicted, the PS took off. Then, 2 years later, bored with the loading times, I exchanged it for an N64. With hindsight I would have stayed with my PS as it would have meant now I could play all of my favourite games on the PS2. If only...
You know it's time to sell when the new console on the block has more advertised games for sale than your trusty old companion (in my case the N64). It will be a sad time indeed when I exchange it for some cold, hard cash, but all good things must come to an end. Some of the memories will never leave like: completing Zelda, winning the UEFA cup 13-0 on FIFA '99 and witnessing the "whip lash" shot for the first time on Perfect Dark.
But it's time to move on my friends. With the hope that I don't sound like some American wrestler: "The winds are about to change."
