These get no credit at all, and yet we owe it all to them for getting us where we are today. The console that I see that has done the very worst in console sales is the Sega Saturn. I don't know what it is that caused the bad sales for the saturn but I think it was a console with potential. For I believe that it was the first console to introduce console gaming on a disk rather than the cartridges. But somehow the N64 still outsold the saturn but was still useing Cartridges. I think that the trouble with the saturn was that it was so un-advertised, and really it was advertisment that got the Sony Playstation where it is. Then came the Sega Dreamcast which again had a first, this first was Internet acces through a console. Again a brilliant idea, even one that the mighty Sony, Nintendo and soon so Microsoft are using and yet they are all eagerly awaited. So I think that next time any-one thinks about talking about how good the future will be they should first think about those that has got us where we are.
The Saturn wasnt a great machine, but it wasnt bad... Panzer Dragoon was good! Sony just outmarketed Sega and since then Sega just havent come back, the market place changed and Sega couldnt adapt quick enough!
As for the Dreamcast it was a head of its time with great games and was the first console with online gaming as standard. Sega just couldnt stop the Sony marketing machine, people believed Sonys hype as opposed to Segas facts...Sad really!
