I currently have an old AMD Duron 900 with 512mb non DDR RAM and an antique Gforce 2 graphics card. It writes DVDs and surfs the net, but that's about all.
The issue is that I see so many people at work who have just bought computers or have much more powerful ones than mine, and I also do the occasional repair or training for people I know on their PCs. As they've just got in to computers they have new PCs and even though they aren't the most powerful PCs (just entry level ones, really) they're all still better than mine.
But then, why do I need one? Faster, more accurate DVD writing? Watching movies? hm...
Aye pb treat yourself, its xmas soon after all :)
Ask him why he got it...
His friend got one, and he doesnt like someone having something better then him.
If I find a faster PC will benefit me I'll either upgrade or buy a new one but I can't see me needing a higher spec PC for a while yet, I think it'll be forced upon me to tell you the truth by games needing a higher spec PC to run on etc.
But if you have the money just treat yourself! Good enough reason, works for most people.
I bought my PC about a year ago for £600 for everything and it's still way over the specs I need it to be to do the things I need it to do and I don't expect I'll need to upgrade it for a couple of years yet.
Unless you have something that you do regularly on it that would become much quicker to do if you upgraded I'd stick with what you've got.
Need a Pentium or equivelent, 512mb DDR or more, decent graphics card and DVD Writer with 14" Flat Panel Monitor.
If it suits the purpose of what you have it for then is it worth shelling out the dough?
