Afterall, they are meant to be death match games and the PS2's lack of a modem right now really limits these titles. Fair enough they will be 4 player, but this is a big limitation when compared to versions on PC and Dreamcast. Surely it would have been better to bring these titles out when a modem is available so PS2 owners can enjoy the full experience of them.
I think it would be better for Sony to stick with FPS titles along the lines of Quake 2, etc that are more level based rather than fragging arenas. By all means add 4 player options into these, but I think its important that they have a strong 1 player to them.
Games like Quake 3 and UT should be kept back until PS2 is really ready for them. At the end of the day, if Sony do end up releasing a modem, they have used up 2 titles already that could have been a big hit to launch around the same time as a modem.
The Playstation had a lot of success out of Doom when it was released, so I think a level based Quake game (maybe one with extra levels for PS2 owners) would do well. Doesn't have to be Quake even, I just used this title as an example. It just seems that death match games based soley on fragging are wasted on PS2 right now without a modem available.
