As a huge comic fan, (i've been collecting since I was around 8, now I'm 16), I've waited too long for a decent comic-to-movie conversion. Comics are under-estimated in this day and age - they've been pushed aside by computer games and TV's. Kids just don't know what they are missing - a whole world of imagination - a place to escape to.
The new X-men movie, however, is to change all that. Otherwise thoguht to be sad, the X-men have been given a 'cool' new look with the release of their movie (no longer do they wear the highly fashionable yellow spandex ultra-tight uniforms, no siree, they now have cool leathers). I already know some kids who ahve started to buy the comic book after they saw the movie (c'mon, it's better than pokemon, right?). So what do you think? With more comic-to-movie transitions to come (spider-man, the incredible hulk, the fantastic four), is the comic book industry going to save itself from obseletion and gain more fans, or are they just losing out big-time to consoles and TV? Did the X-men movie have an effect on you?

You obviously missed the first and second Tim Burton Batman movies then! Until that point, superheroes were seen to be either a loss maker for film companies or as a kids film.

That's not suprising if you look at what went before, the old Spiderman and Batman films and series were nothing more than the 60's versions of the censored comics (the Comic Code Authority banned any adult storylines or over the top violence from all mainstream comics, which brought about the kind of thing that we all remember the 60's Batman being about - biff, bash indeed!) The Hulk faired better, as it was a lot later, but hopefully they will keep the thoughtful storyline in any new Hulk movie, instead of all out action, which would spoil it.

Comics aren't just about superheroes though, take the Vertigo line up (both current and old) Sandman would be an excellent vehicle for Tim Burton, where-as Hellblazer would be a gritty, UK based magicfest (I would suggest Clive Barker wrote the screenplay, but everyone would get confused over that and Hellraiser) If he looked a bit younger, I'd see David Bowie as John, but I'd probably get shot down for it! But all these mature comics have intricate and 'adult' storylines which lend themselves to a 15 or 18 rated movie, so it may be difficult to sell them to a film company.

I've read comics for years, I used to by 16 different ones every week, ranging from Marvel and DC mainstrean through to Pre-vertigo Swampthing and TMNT (when it was in black and white and very gritty, you guys who've only experienced the Turtles through those terrible movies and cartoons don't know what you're missing. If the films followed the pattern of the comics they would have got an 18 rating immediately)
