Nintendo have always used bright colours and a young image in their games! Not because they want to appeal to kids but because it is popular!
Most people (and this IS true) just don't like to admit playing a "kiddies" console because they are afraid of what people will say.
But Nintendo aren't just making games for kids! In fact the N64 was Nintendo's FPS console. There were plenty of games for the older gamer (especially if you like FPS) like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark (18), Turok series (18), Duke Nukem series (18), etc.
There were also games like Body Harvest which were also very popular.
Then came Pokémon. Although invented in 1982 it was first shown to Britain in the late 20th Century. It is the best selling game of all time only beaten by a newer game featuring another 100 new monsters!
Nintendo's image shouldn't be thought of as a "kiddies console company" but as a company that makes games for all ages!
You must admit that when Mario 64 was released it was the best new platformer out at the time! Then there were games like Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 and more great platformers that weren't possible on any other format!
Plus there is the Gameboy! So many units sold! So many games bought! Just cos it doesn't have the same profile as a brand new console it doesn't mean it's rubbish! It was last years best selling console (or just to keep you happy: Handheld). You'll probably say that's because of Pokémon but that would just prove what I've just said!
So remember a "kiddies" image isn't necessarily a bad thing!

There's only maybe 5 games in total that I'd buy an N64 for, and until my irrational prejudice about Nintendo is cured, the X-Box stays on my shopping list.
