If somebody (for the sake of this argument I will call this person ssxpro) were to buy a PS2 controller, assume it works, throw away the receipt, and then discover that it doesn`t work properly after all, what hope would this hypothetical person have of finding a good solution?
When using the controller, some of the buttons appear to press at random intervals. The square, triangle and R2 buttons seem to be affected the most, though there may be a link between pushing the direction buttons and the flawed button pushes. However, this doesn`t always hold true, so I have no idea what is going on, or what to do. I mean, sorry, ssxpro would not know what to do. oops.

Go to the store you got it from. Do you have the receipt for your PS2? If not, presumably you pre-ordered, so they may/should still your details on file somewhere.

It shouldn't involve any extra payment; everything that came in the box is guaranteed for a year, and is therefore replaced free of charge. The store won't lose out, because they will be reimbursed by Sony.

Don't forget - they don't know it's a different controller, so be confident when you explain the problem and request a replacement!

I don`t quite get why the game stores would swap controllers though. It doesn`t seem all that wise to accept a faulty one and give out a new one, or would it involve an extra payment?

I could play against a malfunctioning pad and still lose, I reckon!

The other alternative is that you plug the controller into port 2, and use it as an alternative for a second player in Tekken or DOA ;-).

Sorry, I must have overlooked this one last night! Oops!

I'd agree with devo - try taking it back without the receipt and asking for a replacement - that usually works for me.

Certainly my local GAME store will swap like for like, but then they do pretty much know me in there! It really depends on the policy of the store you bought it from.

meka's idea is also worth a go if the above doesn't work. You should certainly get a result from one of them.

Anyway, we need to discuss my consultancy fee... :-)

Is it the same type of controller that came with the PS2?

If so you could say that the one that came with the console is faulty, and demand a replacement

Have you tried taking it back without the receipt? I don't think you can get your money back, but you could try for a replacement, or a voucher to spend on something else.
