I get fan mail things from Bon Jovi. Today I got one advertising live tracks available to download for 99 cents. This is what the email said:

"Get Live Tracks!

You can download three live tracks from the Bounce tour plus and acoustic track for just 99 cents each! Head to towerrecords.com for details! Head over and check it out, these just became available today!"

Being a fan and not a deliberate thief I thought why not and went over there to get them. So I go to buy them and I get this from Tower:

"We apologize, but the content owner does not allow this digital download to be delivered to your country. "

Now I think that is just stupid. Record companies are losing money to piracy, not as much as they claim to be I think but that is a side point. I was prepared to go and get those tracks legally. But they do not want my custom. Why? If I wait I can get it on win MX or Kazaa within a few hours I would imagine.

They are just shooting themselves in the foot. Apple iTunes thing is great, it has lenient digital rights management, fair prices and is quick and easy. Sadly it is Mac only still, and I think USA only too. If other comapines could provide as good a service then I would use it. I just think it is stupid to put country restrictions on stuff. For such stupidity and arrogance I really can not feel sorry for the record comapnies. Well apart from EMI because they are the only one without a huge parent comapny to back them up but...

Seriously though, if comapanies want to cut down on piracy then they have to make downloads simpler and easier to get.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

It's probably regional differences.

Bon Jovi are probably largely forgotten in America as the trends change so quickly. Over in Europe they probably still have decent sales of their studio and live stuff.

Where? By who?

Isn't that against the human rights convention?

And you're point is? By this definition we should like Rod Stewart!

Do I have to rember this one? most rock bands have this policy.

Really? Now I really hate them. They are no where near as good as the other two you've mentioned.

No but they aren't exactly true Rock are they? More like a boyband version of G n'R or Motley Crue.

Heh, why the hell not? It's not even a "delivery" as they've so aptly put it, but a sodding digital transfer for christ's sake...

You can knock Bon Jovi if you like, but remember:
#1 They have sold 100 million records
#2 They have been voted the best live band
#3 They have played live toi over 32 million people
#4 The guitarist Richie Sambora is married to Heather Locklear
#5 The drummer Tico Torres was married to Eva Herzigova the last wonderbra model. He has since traded her in for a youger hotter model.
#6 Girls love 'em, concert tickets will get you backstage access of a different sort
#7 They have joint British record for most number 1 albums in a row, held alongside the Beatles and Led Zeppelin

Somehow I don't think they really care what your opinions of them are.
