The third instalment of the high school musical franchise was probably the most popular as it reported that in the first 3 days of its release at cinemas it made approximately $82 million breaking a record for a musical.

The story starts with the end of the basketball championships for the wildcats and a song called “now or never” to boost their confidence, to win the final game against west high knights. They win the game. Troy and Gabriella later celebrate the win and discuss the future and wishing it wasn’t going to end, and sing a song called “right here, right now”

The next day Miss Darbus realises that hardly anyone has signed up for the spring show and so tells Sharpay to her delight that she can do the show on her own, Kelsi over hears the conversation and coincidently signs up the whole class to the show and so Miss Darbus announces they will make a show on the last days of school. 4 of the students at east high are then told that they are being considered for a scholarship at east high from Julliard; but only one of them will be chosen.

The next day Gabriella teaches Troy the waltz. Sharpay discovers that Gabriella is able to leave for university early and convinces Troy into believing that he is holding Gabriella back from going to college early. Later that evening Troy sneaks to Gabriella’s room and they discuss college, the next day Gabriella leaves for college. The next day Troy talks with his father regarding his future, Troy runs away after becoming angry and confused about what he wants and basically missing Gabriella.

Miss Darbus reveals to Troy she sent in an application for him to Julliard. He later on prom night goes to see Gabriella at Stanford where she is studying, after receiving a call to say she isn’t going to return as she is enjoying being away, he convinces her to come back for the prom.

At the spring show Kelsi and Ryan open the show with a brilliant performance which wins them both Scholarships to Julliard, Troy chooses a university close to Gabriella so they can see each other, which at first upsets Chad his best friend, but they both then learn that there university basketball teams will both play each other throughout the year so will see each other also.

Once again the third musical of the franchise had a fantastic range of soundtracks a personal favourite of mine was of course we’re all in this together, it's not certain yet whether there is going to be a fourth film made, there have been rumours that there will be, but with completely new characters, in my opinion this isn’t a good move, if indeed this is the case, as the current set of actors are brilliant and it will just lose all its character.
