The person that annoyed me the most was Colin Fry. He is one of the UK's leading spiritualist mediums/conmen. FBI body language analysists would have a field day with his weasel-like behaviour. He's the most false, pretentious ass-face I've ever seen on TV. He really does look like a weasel. The only difference between his act and a gypsy in a tent is that he's on a stage in a suit. Cross his palm with silver? No way.
The aim of the show was to prove mediumship either way...although this has been debated for decades and there are stubborn believers in both camps (science vs spiritualism). They did this by taking several groups of people (one was a couple who lost their 17 year old son seven weeks previously) and introducing them to mediums to contact their loved ones. It really was a sick spectacle. "Ooh, he says he loves you", "I believe there were some back problems". Standard vague, general sentences that wouldn't even convince a child. Yet, because of the emotionla state of the people trying to get in contact with lost relatives, they left feeling as if they'd made "contact". And Colin Fry leaves a richer man. F*cking sick.
The only medium that I've ever seen to be quite convincing is Derek Acorah. Although he does the Colin Fry act of reading audiences, he also goes to supposedly haunted places and picks up an astonishing array of details and facts about the surroundings and former residents. He is still a very scary man though (anyone who consults a "spirit guide" in their head is!), and ruins most programmes by acting really camp and hamming things up. I think this whole spiritualist medium debacle is something you would have to experience yourself to believe in. The fact that there is no scientific evidence under controlled environments speaks for itself.

I find it amazing what the media can get away with they have so much power, example in case; idly watching the tabloid tales had me shocked at the ways in which Jade (one does have to feel sorry for her)was completely turned into a hate figure, it was bullying on a massive scale, in a country that is trying hard to put an end to bullying, (well not that hard)

derren brown is great. if i could do what he does, I'd appoint myself king

1) It's still undecided anyway
2) Who cares?
3) Don't they have anything better to report? (that's a rhetorical question, as a great deal of the other stories in the News were actually news-worthy as opposed to the bollards 'story' [I use the term loosely] about Beckham)
Anyway. Sorry for hijacking your topic.
Not watching this kind of thing much (and not having Sky, so probly not having the opportunity to do so anyhoo) I'm not quite sure who Derren Brown is... although if he's the guy I think he is, then yes, he is quite scary... :S
I think that there is no such thing as a medium. I saw the program advertised on Richard & Judy where they interviewed a medium who says he dosn't charge for his 'service' because he feel's his gift should be available to everyone. To me, that makes no difference because I think mediums exist to offer comfort to people who are bereaved, this guy just does it for free. You must have seen how the woman found comfort in thinking her 17 year old son was around the house....
No harm is done to anyone. If you believe in it all, then it's obviously no consequence that you had to pay because you get what you want - to hear that someone you love is still around.
This topic, for me, is along the same lines as Religion. I don't believe in a God but I don't get angry when I hear about people going to church, especially when it offers them comfort....
