As the cage rattled, the bars shook. But they would hold. He knew they would.
“Hello my little beauty”. He said, as he put his old, wrinkled face near to the side of the cage. “And how are we today then? Hmm?”
The thing in the cage give a deep throated grunt, that oozed aggression, as much as it did malice.
“Oh, its that way is it? Well, maybe this will help your bad temper!” And with that, his face contorted into a mask of cruelty, and he lifted up a small cylindrical object out of his lab coat. Pressing a button, a two large pins shot out of the top of it. Pressing another button, a small, blue spark danced and crackled its way up to the top of the two pins. He leant forward, and thrust it through one of the openings between the bars. The small creature in the cage drew back in fright.
“Haha. You’re a fast little learner, aren’t you?” he sneered, as he prodded the helpless animal with his charge prod. It shook, and was knocked unconscious with the powerful voltage that had just swept through it.
“I liked you my little friend. I did you know. Who’d have thought a gene splice between your already cross-breed parents would have produced a dangerous little whelp like you. Still, you cant be domesticated, so its back to the drawing board for me, and its permanent knock out time for you. Your smart, but not smart enough.”

With that, the old professor turned his back, and walked over to one of the many cupboards in the large room. Because large it was, and drawers, cupboards and work benches filled every available wall space. Concoctions of vile smelling and oddly coloured liquids brewed and bubbled, giving off foul smelling gases, that did in no way improve the already poor air quality in the room. Cages hung down from the roof, cages filled with horrific crossbreeds of animals, cages filled with stolen pets to be used in evil experiments, and cages filled with rotting animal carcasses that had either and been forgotten about or randomly killed on a whim from the professor.

He walked over to a cupboard more modern looking than the others, and producing a key from his pocket, unlocked the large brass lock. He opened the twin oaken doors, and gazed at the myriad of weaponry inside. Tranquilliser guns, darts, revolvers, silenced pistols, silenced assault rifles and vicious looking knives with extremely long blades, fashioned in beautiful unique and serrated edges, that seemed to glow with a magical shine. He hesitated for a moment, then pulled out a silenced pistol. Weighing it expertly in his hand, he checked it for a clip, then loaded it and put on the safety. During all this, the small frightened creature in the cage looked on knowingly. Almost too knowingly.
“Time to die my little friend!” whispered the professor. “But first -” he walked over to the only window in the room, about 1ft square, and opened it. Inhaling and exhaling deeply, the professor left the window and walked over to the cage. “Fresh air. Cant beat it. Still, you wont be getting any where you’re going, you little fiend!” He raised the pistol with a steady hand, and levelled it at the small beast in the cage. But it wasn’t small anymore, it was rapidly growing, like when a balloon is filled with air. But it wasn’t air that this was filled with. It was rapidly bulging out muscles, sinew and tendons, and all stood out on its furry back as it continued to increase in size. Large razor sharp teeth shot out of its mouth, and its eyes turned from misty blue to blood red. It started to froth at the mouth, and as it reached the size of the cage, it tried to break through.

He knew the bars would hold. They were titanium for Gods sake! He wasn’t taking any chances when he started up this werewolf crossbreed program. He knew they would hold. They had to. But they didn’t. With a long stretched out groan, the bars were wrenched from their sockets and the werewolf continued to grow in size. With an agonized groan of panic, the professor dropped the gun and ran to the door, trying to get out. He was a coward at heart, and was only good at torturing defenceless animals in cages. He wrenched at the door knob, and it came off in his hand.

Whirling round, he saw the werewolf was now at its full size, at about 5 ft tall. It turned round and with one look of sadistic pleasure on its face, it jumped at the professor. The professor also jumped simultaneously, in a futile attempt to get out the window. He was a skinny man, and could have got out through the small gap, it the prod charger in his pocket hadn’t wedged in the window, making him helplessly caught. With a growl of delight, the werewolf jumped at him, pulling to the floor. It slashed at his frail body viciously with its long razorsharp claws, and tore him into shreds of flesh. All eyes of the imprisoned animals in the cages were on the event, and they rent up an enormous din, as they screeched, barked hissed and growled simultaneously. After the werewolf had killed the old man, it suddenly shrank back to its normal form, with claws disappearing and teeth growing back inward at an accelerated rate. It then adopted its former shape - of a small dog, which looked normal at first glance, but on closer inspection revealed that it had several animal qualities, such as the nimbleness of a cat, the aggressiveness of a dog, and so on.

It deftly jumped onto the windowsill, cleaned off any specks of blood that had remained on its smooth silk like coat, and then jumped out, into the night, and into the outside world…..

Good one. The description painted a detailed picture of the mad profs lab. I'll look forward to Part 2 and the further peculiar adventures of the escaped beastie.
