Its for my networking assignment for college.

The problem is that I have a LAN (star network etc.) and wanted to know how I could connect to a WAN/Internet. I not sure whether its something to do with a router or something???
Only basic help needed, just a brief of what I need and a how to do it.
Any help well appreciated.

Cheers

No, its part of a bigger assignment. I have to suggest the most appropriate architecture, topology, protocols and access methods etc. for a Local Area Network. Then one of the questions was to suggest a method of connecting to a WAN. This got me a bit stummped as to how to do this. I found some short info about using a router to connect a LAN to a WAN but need further information about how this is done.
Cheers anyway, and if you have anything else to add Im all ears.

This is what you have to do at college?? Jesus christ. All you need to do is get your router on the Internet (or if you're using a computer as a router, get that on the Internet and install some NAT software on it) then set all the machines to have that as their default gateway in the TCP/IP properties for their network adaptors.
