The dial tone on ADSL is simply used to check if an ADSL line is detected. If not it gives you the error that there is no dial tone. There are a few reasons why this can happen. First and the one you should hope it is is that the connecter has come out of the socket slightly. If it isn't that you ADSL line has been turned off or there is a problem with it. The last is that the modem my have died/broken.
