Just caught part of a programme detailing the destruction of Anthea Turners Career at the hands of the tabloids. I'm not particularly a fan of Anthea myself, but I can't help but feel frustration at the power these large corporations abuse.

I don't read the things myself, I occasionally browse through them to see if there is any news that I consider worth a look, but as a rule I don't.

To be honest I don't think these people should be allowed to wield such power like a boy who found his dads gun. They have the power to make or break someones entire career, to cause the entire nation, or indeed the world, to hate a person, with here say, conjecture, or fabrication.

In the case of war, they can fuel the flames of hatred. In the case of murder trials, they can make it out that the person is guilty well before the final verdict is given, and if that person is aquitted, the damage has still been done. He/she will still be guilty in the publics eyes.

I don't think there are enough laws for such things, I realise we need freedom of speech, but if a newspaper is found to be giving faulty information, or is found to be basically 'gossiping' just to sell stories, they should be severely punished.

Its terrible when such large companies make millions of pounds through other peoples suffering. this doesn't just apply to Anthea, but anyone who has been publicly ripped to pieces. I'm just thankful I am not famous.

I see your point about privacy, yes. Anyone who has to take a secret exit or be wheeled from their house concealed in a suitcase has a right to go to the local shop without being photographed without makeup, (shock) and end up being on the front page the next day.

I think my point, really, is that people should be able to be complete b*stards or b*tches if they want, without living in fear that the next day the entire world will have heard about it.

Celebs are forced to live an inhumanly perfect life, or face the wrath of gossiping sad gets, who live to rip people to shreds.

Unless you're as innocent and divine as mother theresa, they will find something to attack you for.

Sure, most of the people that get ripped to shreds have done some terrible things, but they should still have the right to privacy. Having some git camping outside your house with a camera is enough to send anyone over the edge.

The point is though it was all her own undoing, splitting up a family is not going to win you fans, and when you come over bitchy when you are on tv people will start to breed dislike.

Anthea Turners career went to hell because she is actually a beatch. She broke up a marriage and was the moaniest person ever to host GMTV.

The media has power, no doubt about it, The Sun newspaper was held as the newpaper that decided some election results. But in the end it comes down to how people interpret the information, some people will be brainwashed by it, whilst others use it for reference to formulate opinions.
