The Canadian Grand Prix is an interesting race. The track is located on an island and requires a mixture of fast corners, slow sections and a long straight for which a gutsy engine is required.

Qualifying for the race last year was a typical qualifying for the SR F1 Championship - close! The entire 22 cars were split by just over 3 tenths of a second and it was Heidfeld that took pole position. World Champion Panis was having better times and got 3rd. The current championship leader, Villeneuve, did well and got 5th on the grid.

The race was totally different. Qualifying was dry but the race started wet. This caught out Villeneuve after just 2 laps, upsetting the Canadian crowd with his retirement from the race. Fisichella was also caught out by the conditions on lap 7.

It was Panis that got a win which led to his championship with Heidfeld a close second. Trulli couldn't expect much from last on the grid and did well to get to 11th.

Some other notable mentions, Raikkonen qualified 9th but retired with an engine blowup on lap 44. Button also had a tough qualifying and got 21st on the grid. He clawed his way up to 13th in the tough conditions. De La Rosa qualified 16th and retired on lap 61 with irreparable puncture damage. Coulthard qualified 4th but slipped out of the points to finish 7th. He would get 2 points if he finishes there again.

It will be a 69 lap race and as long as you have a good handling car, overtaking is very possible. Accidents are also possible with a walls very close to the track. The rookies will be looking to continue their excellent start to the season and Frentzen will be looking for his first points. It shall be an interesting encounter in the race for the championship!
