For my source of news I go to read a newspaper, the title evidently suggests that it contains ‘news’. I classify news as important events in the world, on a national or global scale, that are likely to affect my life in some way. I am talking about intense coverage of wars and informing me what is happening and why, not that 100 soldiers wife’s got their baps out for a fundraiser. I want to read what my government is doing with the country in which I live, not see poorly drawn sketches of John Prescott eating an oversized hamburger. I want to read the truth, not a commercialised, propaganda-riddled fiction disguised as news. I couldn’t care less about David Beckham’s news socks or the fact Leonardo DiCaprio went for two dumps during the Grammies. This isn’t news; this is useless rubbish that nobody needs to know! Tabloids are, in short, a toned-down version of Hello magazine, with pixelated pictures and stories that could only possibly entertain lovesick housewives.
What is Art?
In my eyes, art is a thing of beauty. Art is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel after years of hard work from Michelangelo. Art is painting beautiful realistic landscapes and expressing yourself in a way other people can relate to. Art is beautiful and respectable. Art is not some washed up alcoholic student sticking a bar stool upside down and sticking feather to it, claiming it represents; ‘man’s struggle to compromise the forces of nature.’ Art is not some idiot dressed in black and white ‘miming’ different activities in the town centre with a collection tin in front of him. Modern art is not art; it is taking advantage of rich people’s vain attempts to be cultural. Forking out half a million for a piece of white card with a black dot in the centre is stupidity, not ‘a very wise purchase’. Yet people, who splash out ridiculous amounts of cash of student-made crap, will not take the slightest interest in true art. Art is controlled by the rich, ignorant and stupid, and hard working artist who put time and effort into creating a piece, instead of getting drunk and urinating on paper, are left unnoticed.
What is Fashion?
I think fashion is about being confident in yourself and thinking that you personally look good. Fashion is not spending £200 on a pair of jeans that are equal quality to a pair of jeans that cost a fraction of the price. Fashion is being yourself, not following a communist-eqsue cycle of ‘what you must wear to be accepted.’ The fashion designers make the most ridiculous crap that nobody would ever wear. They send stick-thin models down the catwalk in a bin-liner with holes in it and get a standing ovation for it. This is not fashion and it is a bad example for impressionable youths who see scrawny models as the social norm and become anorexic as a result.
What is Happiness?
We are fed images of happiness through the corporate machine that is the media. Happiness is, apparently, being a famous 31year old actress with a boob-job, a young son, a cocaine habit, and an ex-backing-dancer boyfriend. Happiness, I reckon, is breaking the mundane cycle of regular life to truly be yourself, to express yourself however you wish and to find inner peace. As hippyish as that may sound it is true, at least it is to me. Happiness is knowing the world around you, it is equality and it is being allowed to be yourself.
What is This Post?
This is me trying to express myself and be a little philosophical. I don’t know why but I hope it doesn’t get torn to bits by a barrage of insults.
I enjoyed that.
