Jacques Villenueve has won the Monaco Grand Prix, his third win of the year, and it launches him into first place in the race for the title. Villeneuve has established himself with this hat trick of victories as the most successful driver ever in the SR F1 Championship.
As usual at Monaco, the pattern of the race was dictated by pit strategy and not making major mistakes. There were a few minor mistakes by Trulli, Da Matta and De La Rosa but they only lost small amounts of time. It was pit strategies that set the standard because the majority of the field were tightly bunched together for most of the race.
Monaco is very hard on transmissions and 3 cars succumbed to this problem. Wilson was the first to suffer on lap 47. Irvine was the next on lap 68 and Fisichella was the last on lap 75 but he was later classified 18th. Monaco is also a place where you don't want to make a mistake but 2 drivers made fatal errors. Verstappen was in a fairly comfortable 2nd but crashed out on lap 21. Panis was lining up for more points when he crashed out on lap 63.
Villeneuve and Alonso zoomed off and were trading lap times but the B.A.R pit crew were fractionally faster than Renault's meaning Villeneuve won and Alonso came 2nd. Montoya was hurt in the chase for the win by being held up early in the race by De La Rosa but finished a comfortable 3rd. Button led home a gaggle of cars from 4th place. Coulthard managed 5th and Da Matta came from the back with an amazing drive for 6th. Barrichello gets his first points of the season with 7th and Raikkonen takes the last points place with 8th.

7 rounds down and Villeneuve has taken the last 3 race wins to take a surprise lead in the Championship. Only Frentzen has yet to score a point this season. Both Championships are so close as we near the half way stage.
The next race is Canada and Villeneuve will be aiming to please his home fans with a 4th race win but everyone will be out to stop him. Can they? Find out by staying with the SR F1 Championship!
(This weekend, I will be making a decision on a few drives and whether they need replacing. If you have any queries, write them in this topic or contact me on MSN. Someone has my address about if you don't have it. If you want to keep your drive, reply to this race and you will keep your drive. I have been keeping track of who has been replying. Thank you for your co-operation and I hope you all will continue to enjoy the remainder of the Championship.)
>Neo, 9th isn't acceptable for the Williams!
