Dermotologists have named a new skin disease "PlayStation palmar hidradenitis" after cases of skin conditions in teenagers appeared after long gaming sessions.

Quite why Sony's console is singled out is anyone's guess, it might be because the Playstation brand is more well known among non-gamers or that the first cases documents have been due to the PS2/PS3 gamepads.

"researchers at Geneva University Hospital in Switzerland studied an afflicted 12-year-old girl.

She had developed painful red lumps on the palms of her hands after using her PlayStation for several hours a day before symptoms first appeared."

Not sure if the Wii version would be palmar Remotitus?

Anyway, beware of skin conditions, especially now that Street Fighter IV is released!

And walk around with a wide swagger for those 10 days also??

Only hand related injury I have occurred playing games is playing the 'spin-the-control-stick-around-really-fast-with-the-palm-of-your-hand' mini-games in the original Mario Party on N64. My hand still bears the marks today!!

I bet similar conditions have been known to occur before... but the individuals suffering them had to stop playing with their joysticks for ten days to allow the swelling to ease...and kept very quiet about the whole thing...
