People are quite right to expect more from consoles and games, but if we no longer had our advanced technology and had no internet games or flashy consoles (read PS2) then would we have such high expectations of Sega, Sony and others? My guess is no. Think about it the classic Nintendo and a copy of Mario was all you needed back then to appreciate games and consoles. Nowdays people want so much more in a console, DVD, internet capability, long line of endless titles. BUT don't get me wrong it is great to have these I was just thinking what life would be like if Nintendo stuck to the Nintendo original and Sega still produced games for the Megadrive. Sony would never enter the market and the X box would probably be some idea in someones head that is never likely to happen.
As we move into 2001, I'm sure many people would be delighted with a DC or even a PS2 in their stocking come Christmas, but would anyone have traded in their sturdy Nintendo or Megadrive back in the past?? Not a chance. If developemtns hadn't occured then we would not know any different and some of us would not be picking apart great technology like the PS2 or DC. I never thought I'd say this, but it is getting to a stage now, where the market is so fiercly contested that consoles come and go. It is such a shame that as soon as someone like Sony bring out the PS2 with built in DVD (may be a good one, may not) that critics suddnely turn anti-Sony and pull it apart. I'm not saying all people do this, just a select few who due to the huge leaps of technology expect enormous improvements. Yes the PS2 is worth £300+ and yes maybe the critics are right, my point is who cares? The PS2 is gonna be big, just like the DC is and the XBox will be. If I could talk to one of these critcs of the PS2 or DC, who make a judgement on a few games or not even seeing the thing in action, I would ask this:
If you could have any console available....what would it be??
I bet you they don't choose the Megadrive over a PS2, DC or other new consoles.
> The thing is Scouse people don't want Online Capabilities...
Once upon a time there was a little liverpoodlian called azzido, and he thought..."maybe i'll voice my opinion to the world, and say this...'we don't want DVD drives or internet connections'"
to you Azzido I say this, SHUT THE HELL UP! You say I didn't ask for DVD drives, I wipe a monkeys @$$ with what you think and hear this, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU ASKED FOR, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!
When you are sitting, home, alone, and you have no-one to play with, you've completed Sonic Adventure and your bored you don't want to play on PSO because you're stuck, so why not go on-line! You will get past the part you're stuck on and whoooopie doooooo you're happy again, Consoles that have an internet connection are a great bonus and bring a lot of longetivity and life to a computer game and in a lot of cases most people who play them.
They are not a bad thing, and if your DVD player bust when you were having a 'movie-fest' with your boyfriends you'd be gald of a PS2 as Back-Up......now you've heard all this TELL ME I'M WRONG, words mean nothing, YOU KNOW I AM RIGHT!
The Game
As for choosing one machine, it would be the N64 due to its great multiplayer games...
although the PS1 with ISS Pro Evolution and WWF Smackdown2 comes in a close second.
