Looking to the future of gaming, I want to know one thing, is it going to be worth it?

The next consoles set for commercial release are the GameCube and the Xbox. The amount of media hype surrounding these two consols is phenomenal. They are two of the most highly anticipated machines ever to be made. And that doesn't just include the gaming industry I'm talking worldwide. But the expectations for these consoles is so damn high that neither of them is going to be able to live up to it's image.

I mean, people will be expecting every single game to be a barrier breaking one. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN. You can't get every game to be a great game. take the N64 for example, only now after four years is it really starting to reach i's full potential. Before now the only barrier breaking games have been: Mario64, GoldenEye, Banjo Kazooie, ISS 64 and Zelda. Thats only six games in four years.

There have been other GOOD games and there has also been some duff ones (Superman, Carmageddon, St Andrews Country Golf etc etc) I don't think that technology has advanced enough for even the majority of GameCube and Xbox games to be great ones.

So then whats going to happen when people realise that the Next Gen consoles "aren't as good as me mag said it was"? There'll be street riots, people walking round in there underwear and fires springing up from bowls of cornflakes. **Wakes up** ummmmm, right sorry. Whats going to happen when these consoles aren't all they've cracked up to be? You tell me.

The general public are going to have to learn that nothing is as good as think it's going to be. The only way to avoid dissapointment is to set your sights low and work your way up. Not set your sights too high and let them drop like a stone through a wet paper bag.

People are expecting the GameCube and Xbox to be able to do everything apart from the washing up. This is not going to happen.

1.....2...3......4....5....hmmmmmm, but yes anyway I see where your coming from when I first go my N64 I thought that all the games that flopped would be a meer memory, but the N64 and Playstation alike have both released poor games. But what do we define as poor, I mean they all work....they aren't faulty.....they have all the right connections and use the console periipherals in the right way, yet when a 'great' game comes out like No Mercy which is faulty people class it a 'great' or 'ace' just because it is a fun game to play...but it does have faults...doesn't that make it a dodgy game.

I hope that most games companies release all good games but I KNOW that will never happen, they will still release games that will go down to £10 after a year of being released, they will still have Wetrix and Bust-A-Move 128. I don't like puzzle games but they are still good games and provide hours of amusement for those who love and play them.

Ground-Breaking Games are not necessarilt those that are a big hit, they can be the little stepping stones that the major games act on to become a top ten game!

Without Goldeneye Perfect Dark would NEVER have happened, Goldeneye is inferior because Perfect Dark has more options and graphically and options-wise it is the better of the two! Most of the time, ground breaking titles aren't recognised until quite some time after their release date!

I dont think people are after groundbreaking games...

Thoiugh for the game playing public/casual gamer... pretty much every game is, ast first at least, going to seem groundbreaking....

Most gamers are lookinf for a fun gameplaying experiece of the type thats too often been missing from recent years...

Its onbe of the problems with PS2's being hard to code... people are hoping that less time should be spent trying to get the box to do what you want it to, and less time woking within its limitations and provide games that (for the moment at least) look great, sound fantastic and playing wonderfully...

With the specs of all the current next Gen consoles this is all easily possible... well for a little while at least...
