DVDs make the picture and sound clearer, but films in general can have such an affect on the peopel watching them.

Clockwork Orange was banned by Stanley Kubrick for viewing in the UK as it had such an affect on the viewers of the time. Violent and horrible films were banned all the time in the 70's and 80's, mostly to be re-released under a lot of hype in the 90's! But these films can affect people, if only for a short time.

Films can also make us laugh or cry. I'm not afraid to admit that I like a good romantic movie, and yes, I cried at Bambi too, and the best movies are always the ones that move you the most, whether it be to laugh, cry or feel that adrenaline rush from being scared. Movies have a special power, and I love them for it.

I agree in essence thats what make films great, the fact that they can bring you such a range of emotions, some of which you wouldnt come into contact with as frequently. What emotions you want to feel may even dictate what movie you want to buy, men for example tend like movies with a bit of action in them like Braveheart (because were competitive deep down and its an outlet for our agression). Women tend to like more Romantic movies like Notting Hill. Some of us like Horror movies because we like the emotion of fear they give us. Some of us like comedies because there isnt enough humour in our lives (God knows work can be everything but homourous!).
But ultimately films take us away from our everyday exsistence and briefly take us to another life, where we can encounter situations and emotions we would otherwise not have the chance to experience. The feelings of humour, fear, love, and adrenaline you can experience with a good movie is what makes films so popular.
