A friend of mine who is an electrical equipment technicial explained to me this evening why you often get the strange Green-O-Vision on your PS2 DVD playback if you are using a Scart lead. Apparently it is not an accidental thing as was originaly thought, but a plan by Sony to stop DVD piracy, a sort of Macrovision if you like. Your Basic VHS video recorder has two Scart ports, one input and one output. The input is labeled as the Primary input and your little box of trick knows that using the Primary input probably means it's plugged into a video recorder, therefore causing the picture to go green. Most tellys have several Scart inputs. When I got my PS2 I plugged it into the secondary input as my NTL Digital is in the Primary, so to test my friends theory I swapped them over and got instant Green-O-Vision!

So if you want a decent picture on Scart DVD playback from your PS2 just plug the lead into the secondary or tertiary ports (AV2 or AV3) and the problem will disappear, hoorah!

I'm currently using a Sony PS + PS2 av multi adapter; this has a sony proprietary pass through, Composite out, stereo audio out and s-video out.

I use my old PS rgb lead from the passthrough for games, and the s-video out for DVD, just switching between channels when I want to play or watch respectively.

Works a treat.

I got the Adaptor from Dixons (no i didn't ask any of the staff, I just found it myself; it was quicker), and a single S-video to s-video lead from Rayleigh Hi-Fi. The adapter was 15 quid, so was the 1m long s-video cable.

So, no more green dvd for me!

Unfortunatley plugging it into the non-primary SCART socket on your TV means you only get plain a old fuzz'o'vision composite signal and not an RGB signal for finest quality (which is the point of using an RGB cable in the first place).
