Thought about this kinda thing for a long long time but never really thought about it enough to actually... think about it...?! Whatever.

I've been staying at my grandparents farm looking after the place while they're in Vegas.
Not much to do there except run down to the fishing lake, take their money, run back up to the house. And repeat. So getting bored is the easiest thing.

Roughly around about 7:00pm, I wanted to pop to the garage to get some stuff.. 2 bottles of Coke, sour sweets and chewing gum to be precise! And some other stuff for friends who were fishing. It was also something to do.

The garage is roughly half a mile walk from the farm. Not too bad. And it's pretty isolated. Not many cars at all until you get to the main road. Was very tempted to take the Range Rover, but I can't drive and I definately wouldn't be smashing it to pieces again.

Next to the main road is a layby. Got to the layby and saw just one navy blue car. Looked like a foreign car, but I'm not too good with cars, so I won't carry on about the car..!
A man was in the car, looked like he was roughly in his 30s. Clean looking. He was foreign, Asian. He sounded foreign.

I absolutely hate talking to strangers. Especially when you're alone.

The man started talking about something, but I couldn't hear because of the cars on the main road driving past fast and his accent. So I stopped and moved a little closer to understand. I thought he was asking for
directions because he mentioned the town I was staying in. But he asked something else I didn't understand. And I wasn't going to keep saying "Huh?" "What?" "Pardon?" It's gets embarassing after a while!

You seem to somehow know straight away when someone is .. Uh. Different? Think that's the word!
Body language for one. He seemed very nervous and curious. Constantly looking at the cars, looking at me strangely and fidgeting a lot.
They may seem like little things, but they get me nervous. Especially seeing a stranger doing it.
And the questions they ask. He wouldn't stop saying..
"Will you get in the car?" "I'll take you to the garage." "I want to get to know you better".
That creeped me out!

He could've been a harmless bloke. But I was standing there for about 10 minutes with his questions.
His questions did get pretty scary. And you don't know what to do in that kind of situation when it's never happened before.
Bad thoughts start running through your mind.

He admitted he was a very lonely man and he could make me happy if I would let him take me out to dinner..
He offered to take me back to Northampton to his place and make me dinner.

Now, why on Earth, would a complete stranger do that? Was he a paedophile? Or just desperate?!

"Can I have your number?"
"I'll wait for you at the garage then, then we can go somewhere"
He was very desperate.

Somehow I managed to get away. Never walked so fast in my life! Got to the point where I started running.
Then, when I looked back, I felt like crying because I thought he was running after me, but that was just a jogger!
Made me jump though, because a fast car came speeding past really loudly just as I looked back. Dunno why I jumped though!

Y'see, he could've been completely harmless, but because of my imagination, I seem to make myself think that if I had gotten in that car, what would've happened?
I'm not that silly though to do that. Not in a million years. Dread to think though what would happen if anyone had gotten in that car with him.

Just a little creepy, that's all!
Glad I'd rang a taxi 20 minutes before though, otherwise I would've crapped myself walking back!
Besides. I had two bottles of Coke to carry, so the taxi would've been an option anyway..
Tipped the driver too because he made me feel safe.

Probably just a little fragile, thass all!

That sound like a description of a perv?!

nah its not the same thing is it? I know some taxi drivers have been arrested for such things, but the taxi driver isn't leaning out of his window, trying to talk you into going for a drive, he's doing it because he is paid to.

It is a prudent move, however, to carry some sort of weapon with you. Get yourself a Kubotan or some mace, and keep it on you at all times.

Another important tip from a top martial artist - don't assume everyone is hostile, but always try and identify ways to escape if the person you were with attacked you. I consider learning how to defend yourself one of lifes priorities. there is too much scum on the streets.

He probably thought you where are \/\/hore NY (No offence) but all you have to do in that situation is spray them with mace...you like mace in America don't you? Well if you don't have that then just swear at him, slap him and storm of making a huge scene.

You didn't want to get in a stranger's car, so you called a taxi instead?

I know it's a bit different (especially when the driver hasn't tried to pick you up), but I felt like pointing it out anyway :^P

He's either a creepo or has a seriously misguided chat-up technique.

he sounds like a grade A ted loon to me.

i can see only bad things coming from you accepting a lift from him.

I wouldn't feel sorry for him, he's either A a paedo, or B a weirdo. really, its not normal to talk to ask you stuff like that, and wrong to put you in that position.

Its creepy yeah, but you kept your wits about you and now you are safe. One time when i was in town an old man who was a complete stranger walked up to me and said i wouldnt get away with punching him in the face. He muttered on for a minute and then walked off, it was very surreal.

And what's my point?! Duh.

If he was a perv. I honestly 'only just' realised what a sick world we live in. Feel pretty bad for even writing that.

You think about all these paedophiles in the world who do stuff to kids, some even kill. Yet I don't feel I will ever understand how bad something can be until it actually happens.

He probably wasn't one anyway. Just felt the need to express..
