I have looked everywhere but cannot find if it has a modem, is it an add on or something?
Nope, no modem for PS2 yet.
There will be a hard-disk/broadband add-on - Sony have said this will be launched globally by the end of this year.
In the meantime, there may well be USB modems launched by third-party companies, but there's no solid news on these yet.
